Foxtrot is a boutique winery focused on crafting terroir-driven Pinot Noir and premium Chardonnay. Foxtrot has built a reputation as the premier producer of age-worthy Pinot Noir in the Okanagan Valley, BC by showcasing grapes grown from 30-year-old own-rooted vines in its estate vineyard — demonstrating what the Naramata Bench sub-region can achieve when a pure and subtle hand is applied.

Our Philosophy

We believe that a wine should be an expression of its place, of the particular soils and microclimate from which it comes, the vines and grapes that give it life, and the weather conditions that shape it, all animated by the sensibility of the individuals who make it. Great wine is not replicable from place to place nor the same from year to year. Foxtrot is fortunate to make its home on the Naramata Bench, whose unique terroir we seek to express in complex, elegant, and age-worthy Pinot Noirs.

For centuries, Burgundy has provided the benchmarks for pinot noir and chardonnay. But buried within the history of Burgundy is a long, often-difficult battle to establish the primacy of terroir as the region’s defining characteristic, and to nurture a tradition of small producers who respect the land they farm, and who seek to produce wines of balance and inner harmony. The pinot noirs and chardonnays from the Okanagan Valley have their own character, different from Burgundies, but also different from each other, based on particularities of soil and microclimate. We believe that our young wine region can benefit by defining and celebrating the distinctive voices of its soils, and by emphasizing its ability to produce wines of depth and refinement.

Behind the Label

When the Estate vineyard was first planted, a black bear would appear annually, just in time for harvest. He would stand on his hind legs, and the pickers would comment that he appeared to be dancing. They affectionately named him Fred, after the noted dancer and movie actor Fred Astaire.
